Christmas in the Maldives swaps short winter days for warm lagoons, long sunsets and celebrations that move from the beach to the dinner table. Here is what the festive season is like across the islands, how to plan for it, and the programme waiting at Sirru Fen Fushi from 23 December 2026 to 7 January 2027.
What Is Christmas in the Maldives Like?
The Maldives is a Muslim nation, so Christmas is not a public holiday on local islands. Celebrations take place within the resorts, where each island creates its own festive programme of gala dinners, beach gatherings and family moments.
That makes the experience quite different from a traditional Christmas at home. Rather than a single day, the season stretches across a fortnight, with something planned for most evenings between Christmas Eve and the first week of January.
December also brings settled conditions. It falls at the start of the drier northeast monsoon season, with daytime temperatures of around 28 to 30°C and comfortable seas for snorkelling, diving and time on the water.

Planning Christmas Holidays in the Maldives
The Maldives at Christmas is one of the busiest times of the year, and the festive fortnight is in demand well ahead of time. Booking early gives you a wider choice of villa categories and travel dates.
A few practical points help when planning Christmas holidays in Maldives resorts:
- Minimum stays often apply over the festive period, so check the terms for your dates when you enquire.
- The seaplane transfer schedule naturally shapes arrival and departure days, so it helps to plan international flights around it.
- Pack something elegant for gala evenings, alongside relaxed resort wear for beach celebrations.
- Michelin Series dinners take place on set dates only, so reserve these early.

Away from the gala evenings, there is plenty of choice. Raha Market serves international cuisines through the day, with à la carte and buffet service and a themed buffet night once a week. Kata pairs Japanese cuisine with its own bar and rooftop lounge, Azure focuses on seafood fine dining, and Spice Box serves Southeast Asian dishes on the beach, ideal for a relaxed lunch in the shade of the palms. For a quieter celebration, Destination Dining can be arranged on request, from a candlelit dinner at Madi Point to a beach barbecue at Kata Beach or dinner under the stars. Couples planning a festive escape can find more ideas on romance at Sirru Fen Fushi.

الأسئلة الشائعة
Is the Maldives a good place to spend Christmas?
The Maldives offers a warm, relaxed alternative to a winter Christmas, with festive programmes hosted by individual resorts. December falls at the start of the more sunny northeast monsoon season, so beach time, snorkelling and evening celebrations outdoors can all be part of the day. Because celebrations take place within resorts rather than on local islands, the experience depends on the programme of the resort you choose. At Sirru Fen Fushi, The Constellations of Moments runs from 23 December 2026 to 7 January 2027, with gala dinners, beach parties, family pool parties and guest residencies in dining and wellness.
What is the weather like in the Maldives at Christmas?
The Maldives at Christmas is typically warm and mostly dry, with daytime temperatures of around 28 to 30°C and warm seas. December marks the beginning of the northeast monsoon season, which generally brings calmer seas and more settled conditions than the middle of the year. Short tropical showers are still possible, so a light layer for the evening is useful. Clear water in this season suits snorkelling on Sirru Fen Fushi’s 9km house reef. For a month-by-month overview, see our guide to the best time to visit the Maldives.
Is Christmas celebrated in the Maldives?
Christmas is not a public holiday in the Maldives, which is a Muslim country, but resorts celebrate it with their own festive programmes for international guests. These typically include Christmas Eve gala dinners, a visit from Santa, beach parties and New Year’s Eve celebrations. The programme continues through to Orthodox Christmas Eve on 6 January, with The Silent Star Sunset Sip and The Silent Star Christmas Eve Gala Dinner.
How do resorts celebrate New Year’s Eve in the Maldives?
New Year’s Eve in the Maldives is usually celebrated with a gala dinner, music and a countdown on the beach. At Sirru Fen Fushi, the evening begins with Midnight Constellation, the New Year’s Eve Gala Dinner on Raha Market Beach from 8pm. The countdown, The Night Where Moments Align, takes place just before midnight, and the New Year’s After Party continues on the beach until 2am.
